Prevention: The New Paradigm in Healthcare

Out with the old, in with the new! In the past, Doctors have focused on treating conditions AFTER they had already arisen. As modern healthcare providers, we at Gutrich Chiropractic embrace a new paradigm - Prevention. With this in mind, we are pleased to offer our patients - Back Class!

Back Class is a complimentary one-hour interactive seminar offered each month in our 1425 Studio. We discuss such topics as: achieving ideal posture in sleeping, standing, and sitting; understanding spinal injuries and other conditions of the back, neck, shoulders, knees, and hips; rehabilitation of existing injuries, and demonstration of home-strengthening and stretching techniques.

As a patient of Gutrich Chiropractic, this seminar is available to you, your family and friends, or anyone you feel may benefit from this valuable information. The class runs the first Thursday of each month - please call us to schedule.

Focus On… Pilates

“Ideally, our muscles should obey our will. Reasonably, our will should not be dominated by the reflex actions of our muscles.” Joseph Pilates

Joseph H. Pilates was born in Germany in 1880; he died in New York in 1967. He developed a fitness regime bearing his name, and successfully used it to overcome his disabilities as a frail and sickly child. As a hospital orderly in the first World War, he utilized his techniques to help infirmed soldiers recover from their injuries.

With its roots in traditional strength training and the Eastern practice of Yoga, Pilates devised a series of controlled movements that engage the mind and body in developing strong, flexible muscles, without building bulk. Emphasis was placed on developing deep torso strength and flexibility, - known as “centering” or “core control”, - to ensure proper posture and reduced risk of injury. The lithe musculature and ease of movement possessed by a cat was an image he used to illustrate the technique’s objectives. The Pilates method places a lot of emphasis on correct posture and technique, and doesn’t rely upon high numbers of repetitive exercises.

The Pilates method of exercise has been very popular with dancers since the 1940’s but it is now becoming much better known. Today Pilates’ followers include dancers, athletes, physiotherapists, fitness trainers, and chiropractors who appreciate the significant role exercise plays in restoring and maintaining good health.

Outreach

Gutrich Chiropractic believes that individual health starts with a healthy community. That is why we donate our time and skills, as well as health products to community charities on a regular basis.

Whether at organized city races and athletic events, or through the Chamber of Commerce and other worthwhile organizations, we are dedicated to educating our community and benefiting the health and well-being of our neighbors and friends by all means possible.

What’s New at G.C?

Our office has been buzzing with activity of late. Of note, Dr. Gutrich and Dr. Halliday recently represented Gutrich Chiropractic at Loyola University’s annual Women’s Health Fair. In addition, we both recently attended seminars for continuing education in function medicine, titled “Mastering the 8 Core Factors of Optimal Wellness and Health Restoration” and “Nutrigenomic Modulation of Inflammatory Disorders”.

Speaking of continuing education, Mandy is currently studying at Olympia College in the Medical Assistant program, and Dr. Liu has padded her resume by just completing a degree in Respiratory Therapy at Malcolm X College. We’re all very proud of them!

Stacey, meantime, has increased her hours at Gutrich Chiropractic, and is busy managing our 1425 Studio and assisting Dr. Halliday in the marketing department. Stacey recently organized and hosted a “Ladies Leap Year and Pamper Party” to much success.

Way to go Team!
